We can solve this – there are about 3 million homeless people in the US and more than 1 billion blankets. Maybe if we could get brand new blankets to the people who need them, maybe if they could get a good night’s sleep, everything would look better in the morning. And maybe that would make all the difference.
We'll collect your brand new blankets between Monday, March 15 and Sunday, March 21, 2010. For drop-off or ordering information, see below.
A crazy ambitious, 7-day campaign sponsored by 10,000 Blankets, a charitable organization founded by friends in 2008 to collect and donate new blankets. We are recognized by the IRS as a 501-c-3 charitable organization, so your donated blankets are potentially tax deductible.
Any kind of blanket — store-bought, handmade, baby, quilt, electric — as long as it’s brand new.
Shortly before Blanket Week, we’ll post drop-off locations right here. And we’ll post a mailing address, in case there are no drop-off locations in your community.
We deliver them to homeless shelters, women’s shelters and emergency efforts. To date, we’ve donated more than 750 blankets to Pacific Garden Mission and Kohl’s House at Children’s Memorial Hospital (Chicago, Illinois); Daybreak Family Support Center, Guardian Angel Community Services and Lamb’s Fold Center for Women & Children (Joliet, Illinois); and Hesed House (Aurora, Illinois).
